A collective of women-owned saunas in North America
Sauna Sirens of North America are dedicated to empowering women-owned and FLINTA-owned sauna businesses with resources, community, and growth opportunities.
In sauna, deep connections are formed.
Sauna Sirens was whispered into being between two Sirens from Maine and Minnesota in 2022. They each had many questions and stories to share, were working as silos in their community, and were looking for connection through shared values with other sauna business owners. Over the coming months, they each received many inquiries from other new sauna business owners, looking for guidance. Being people who love finding ways to support others while supporting themselves, they officially launched Sauna Sirens in 2024, reaching out to every FLINTA sauna biz owner they knew. Eight women were in the original group, 6 of whom still meet monthly to this day.
Why Women and FLINTA?
Women have played key roles in historic sauna traditions. They were responsible for preparing and managing the sauna, guiding rituals, and using it for health, healing, and social bonding. Women often participated in communal saunas and held women-only sessions for sharing wisdom and supporting each other, especially during significant life events. Over time, women remained central to preserving and passing down sauna traditions, ensuring its cultural and spiritual significance endures.
The current day thermic bathing industry in North America is largely male-dominated. Recognizing and supporting women in this space is crucial for fostering inclusivity of all humans in the practice of sauna. Recognizing women as owner-operators allows us to be mindful of who we are keeping out and moves us to be more intentional about who we are bringing in.
